The idea of success is very vague indeed. Often people are heard speaking about success without quite understanding the meaning of this much publicized word ‘success’. Actually, success is a relative concept that varies from generation to generation, and even from man to man according to individual tastes and outlook.
Some might say that our ancestors’ survival against the heavy odds were the biggest success in man’s history while others argue that man’s landing on the moon was the greatest success of mankind till date.
But nowadays, the authentic meaning of success is attaining material comfort, sophisticated lifestyle, and social status and leading a luxurious life. For these people, high and fast life are essentials of success. The words charity, love and sympathy have no value for them.
Look at other people like Vivekananda, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, etc. who did not care for material gain but were successful in the simplest way by becoming living legends of success. Some present day hardcore materialistic people may have some other view. What then is the true meaning of success? Success is indeed a relative concept depending upon individual interests and tastes---it can never be absolute.
For a student success would definitely mean coming out with flying colors in the examinations and getting a good employment afterwards.
My idea of success is somewhat dissimilar. Of course, I want to do well in my exams and all that, but trying to be a better person and resolving to do better and attaining ‘that’ will mean success to me. I have a long way to go, it has been only 14years that I have come here to experience the world--- and yet I desire freedom and independence and attaining ‘that’ will mean authentic success to me. I have innermost unselfish desires and attaining ‘that’ will mean success to me.
I hope that success will not turn my head when I will be going up the ladder.
